Stephens Valley Church in Nashville, TN, is seeking a full-time Assistant Pastor of Outreach with 5+ years ministry experience.

ABOUT STEPHENS VALLEY CHURCH

The Reformed and independent Stephens Valley Church is seeking an Assistant Pastor of Outreach to partner with its congregation in loving the church community, our city, and the world through its comprehensive ministry of the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Located in one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas of Nashville, Tennessee, Stephens Valley Church is in its sixth year ministering within a beautiful and thriving suburbia of the city characterized by natural landscapes and trails bordering the historic Natchez Trace and Harpeth River valley. We welcome the candidate and his family who earnestly desire to partner with Stephens Valley Church and embrace a vision comprised of a growing multi-generational congregation that is excited to worship and serve our God.

 

A successful candidate must enthusiastically embrace and desire to faithfully proclaim the Biblical doctrine of grace as summarized in the Westminster Confession of Faith, the Larger and Shorter Catechisms and associated Confessions of the Reformed church.

 

Stephens Valley Church is governed by a ruling Council consisting of the Senior Pastor and Elders. The Assistant Pastor of Stephens Valley Church (SVC) will work alongside the Senior Pastor and the Elder Council to fulfill the mission of SVC and potentially prepare to step into a larger leadership role as its Senior Pastor begins his retirement process in future years.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Education and Professional Experience

Desired Experience: Minimum of 5 years ministry experience; accomplished in an assistant or associate pastor role with effective teaching and preaching; ability to develop and execute a comprehensive ministry plan with demonstrated team building and management skills, working in a collegial manner with other staff and congregants towards a common goal(s); experience encouraging and mentoring young adults and professionals; excellent written and oral communication

 

Education: Masters of Divinity or Doctorate (theological or ministry in focus) earned from an accredited seminary college (degree granted or preparing for completion by Spring of 2024)

 

Ordination or anticipating ordination within an evangelical church, preferably within a Reformed church body and/or a denomination whose basis of theology originates in Scripture and is summarized within the Westminster Confession and associated Catechisms.

Personal and Leadership Qualifications

The successful candidate must be a person of high integrity, fully supportive of a presbytery/council form of church government, and support the Senior Pastor in his leadership role.  His demonstrated work ethic should reflect a highly-motivated and independent individual possessing the skills to lead staff and influence church members to successfully deliver on a vision comprised in congregational and community outreach resulting in substantial church growth. His family should be equally enthusiastic about participating and serving within the thriving SVC membership; they should be active in all phases of church life as well as eagerly establish fellowship within their local Nashville community.

Specific Responsibilities

Outreach Ministry

  • Actively recruit young families to our church from the thriving greater metropolitan area of Southwest Nashville through his demonstrated gifts, talents, and skills as well as other contemporary means of outreach common within our society

  • Organize Men’s and Couples’ Bible studies, plan and lead church-wide and community-focused ministry and outreach activities

  • Work closely with the Christian Education Committee (CE) of Stephens Valley Church to support young adults and families in their pursuit of Christian education; identify new classes for annual CE planning and continued development of the Sunday school curricula; work with the CE committee and the Senior Pastor to plan mid-week Wednesday evening dinner gatherings and Bible study

  • Support through collaboration the mission of the Director of Childrens’ Ministry, the Youth Group Director and Music/Choral Director as these partner ministries are vital to the success of an Outreach Ministry

  • Utilizing his formal theological education and ministerial experience(s) participate in the training of lay leaders within the SVC congregation, equipping them for broader ministry and service within Christ’s catholic church

  • Regularly lead in worship and liturgy and proclaiming the Gospel, preaching once every 6-8 weeks or as directed by the Senior Pastor and/or Council

Pastoral Care

An eager minister of the Gospel and Pastor of Outreach will have an intrinsic desire to know and care for his congregation.  The Assistant Pastor of Outreach will collaborate with the Assistant Pastor of Congregational Care, the Senior Pastor and Shepherding Elders to identify broader needs and care-opportunities within the membership as well as our local community of visiting-congregants.
